recording
The tracking session is the most important part of the chain. Great sounding recordings require much less processing down the road, whereas as poor recordings will need a lot of help (and somethings can't be 'fixed in the mix'). Whether you need to record a vocalist, a three piece acoustic group or a full fledged rock band, I have the experience and patience required to help you sound your best.
On location recording
My mobile recording setup is perfect for those who don't have access to a studio. My collection of mics, outboard gear, and 16 channels of inputs are enough to get great recordings in almost any location. In addition, I supply all of the necessary stands, cables, and other accessories.
MIXING
Once your tracks are recorded they need to be 'mixed.' This is where the polish is applied in order to make your song sound clean, balanced, and professional. I can receive tracks through either a physical medium or remotely over the internet.
EDITING
Editing is where my OCD actually comes in handy! Whether its comping together the best parts of different takes, removing unneeded strips of audio, or fixing small timing issues, my attention to detail is second to none.
vocal tuning
If your vocal tracks need a little help staying on pitch, then send 'em my way. I know the importance of mixing/editing with your ears and not your eyes, so keeping a vocal performance in key while also keeping it natural and maintaining its character is vital.
mastering
Typically the final part of the process. This is where your songs become 'radio-ready.' I'll bring your levels up to commercial standards and delve into some subtle processing to make your tracks pop. Mastering is encouraged for both singles and full length albums.
production
While I love the engineering side of recording music, I equally love the production aspects of crafting songs. This is where individual parts are figured out, ear candy is added, tones and tempos are nailed down, and the soul of a song is really brought to life. As a musician and multi-instrumentalist ( and lover of theory) I have a keen understanding of which instruments are best suited for certain roles, how to leave room for specific parts, and how/when to bring more (or sometimes less!) energy to a song.
Transcription
I have a long history of writing out my own charts and figuring songs out by ear. With just a recording I can create an accurate transcription of your songs complete with vocal melodies, chords, and rhythm indications so that you can get your musicians quickly up to speed and all on the same page. Examples of my work are below.
